New Issue of the Journal of Markets & Morality (Vol. 20, No. 1)

The newest issue of the Journal of Markets & Morality, vol. 20, no. 1, has been published online and print copies are in the mail.

This issue is a special issue on “Morality, Neoclassical Economics, and John Maynard Keynes.”

Guest editors Victor V. Claar and Greg Forster describe the issue as follows in their editorial:

[A]s this special issue of the Journal of Markets & Morality will help illuminate, our need to sort issues into separate “economic” and “cultural” categories is historically abnormal. It is the culmination of developments in economic philosophy—developments whose key turning point is canvassed and evaluated in this issue.

While much of the issues’ articles focus on the life and work of economist John Maynard Keynes, it also engages broader developments in Neoclassical economics from a moral point of view.

Contributors include John Lunn, Hadley T. Mitchell, Edd Noell, Daniel J. Smith, Sean P. Alvarez, Ross B. Emmett, Phillip W. Magness, Sean J. Hernandez, Brian Fikkert, Michael Rhodes, Robert C. Tatum, Samuel Gregg, Peter Boettke, Patrick Newman, Steven McMullen, and Todd P. Steen.

The issue also contains our regular slate of reviews, surveying recent contributions in the areas of Christian social thought, the integration of ethics and economics, and the history and philosophy of economics.

Lastly, this issue marks the final issue for Dr. Jordan Ballor as executive editor. Dr. Ballor remains at Acton as senior research fellow and director of publications, but he will also be a postdoctoral researcher in theology and economics as part of the “What Good Markets Are Good For: Towards a Moral Justification of Free Markets” project of the VU University Amsterdam. I have greatly appreciated Jordan’s expertise and mentorship over the last six years and wish him the best in this new endeavor.

Jordan’s departure from the journal staff means that longtime reviews editor and Acton research fellow Dr. Kevin Schmiesing will be our new executive editor going forward. Dr. Andrew McGinnis, research fellow and editorial director at Acton, will be the journal’s new reviews editor.

Dylan Pahman

Dylan Pahman is a research fellow at the Acton Institute, where he serves as executive editor of the Journal of Markets & Morality. He earned his MTS in historical theology from Calvin Theological Seminary. In addition to his work as an editor, Dylan has authored several peer-reviewed articles, conference papers, essays, and one book: Foundations of a Free & Virtuous Society (Acton Institute, 2017). He has also lectured on a wide variety of topics, including Orthodox Christian social thought, the history of Christian monastic enterprise, the Reformed statesman and theologian Abraham Kuyper, and academic publishing, among others.
