Explainer: What is the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA)?

On Wednesday, February 15, the European Parliament approved the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), a free trade agreement abolishing most trade restrictions between the European Union and Canada. Negotiators hammered out the 1,600-page agreement over the course of seven years before Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and  European Council President Donald Tusk signed CETA last October 30.
